Nomination Criteria
Three key areas of excellence for award consideration
Community Service & Health Volunteering
Engaging in community service, promoting health volunteering, and delivering healthcare services to the widest possible segment of society.
Requirements
- Provide evidence of volunteer hours (from the Health Volunteering Platform, King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center, or others).
- Or provide certificates of appreciation for participation in events or campaigns.
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
Creating programs that enhance the level of medical education, improving specialized medical services, and benefiting the community. Examples include lectures, specialized workshops, training courses, health caravans, and field visits.
Requirements
- Must attach supporting documents such as certificates or official letters proving participation as a speaker or organizer.
Contribution & Development in Ophthalmology
Establishing training and development programs for ophthalmology departments, either locally or internationally.
Requirements
- Provide a certificate or official appointment letter from the workplace.
- Attach evidence of reduced waiting times for clinics, surgeries, or referrals.
- Include proof of accreditation of the training program from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

Eligibility
Requirements for award candidacy
- The candidate must be an active member of the Saudi Ophthalmology Society.
- The candidate must not have received the Shield Award in the past 5 years.
- Current Board members and Awards Committee members are not eligible to apply.

Important information for candidates
- The Awards Committee reserves the right to expand on these three axes when assessing candidates, in line with the award's objectives.
- Candidates must submit a brief CV highlighting their areas of excellence.
